Used Stair Lifts – Good Value for Money
Categorized: Used Stair Lifts | No comments
You might have already done some research on stair lift prices and seen that they can be quite expensive. Brand new stair lifts can cost anywhere in the range of $2,500 to $15,000 depending on various factors such as model type, installation type, seating type and so on.
It is generally the older generation that is in need of stair lifts and this segment of the population does not usually have a lot of disposable income to afford such costly equipment. That is why there is a huge market for used stair lifts.
There are two ways to buy used second hand stair lifts. One is a private sale where you look at sources like classifieds or free ads and then buy the used stair lift from a private entity. However, this is not recommended as there is very little chance that you will get a warranty on this kind of a purchase.
A much better option would be to buy used or refurbished stair lifts from a dealer that is authorized to sell stair lifts. This option is better because they will be able to provide you with warranty for at least a year which will give you some peace of mind. A 2nd hand stair lifts dealer will also be able to professionally install a stair lift for you. Stair lifts installations are not easy and it is highly recommended that you do not try it on your own.
Here are some points that you will need to keep in mind when you are buying used stair lifts
- Buy branded – Even though they are used, you still need to buy a branded stair glide that has good reputation. This equipment will be responsible for carrying near and dear ones and there is no point in buying something that is cheap and unsafe. Examples of really good stair lift brands are Acorn stair lifts and Bruno stair lifts.
- Buy with warranty – Do not buy a used chair lift if it does not come with warranty. Dealers selling used stair glides will often refurbish and service a used stair lift before they sell it back to the consumers. They will also issue a warranty on the used equipment and the warranty period will usually be about 12 months.
- Inquire about installation costs – Different companies have different policies on installation. Some will charge a separate installation fee while some will include it in the final price. Some will also insist that they come and take a look at your stairway before giving you a final quote. It is advised that you get as much details as you can about the prices so you are not presented with any surprises at the time of final billing.
- Choosing a model – When choosing a used model, keep the user’s comfort foremost in your mind. Used stair lift prices will depend on whether a person can sit or stand. Some lifts will be able to carry a wheelchair with the person seated on it and prices will depend on these features.
We hope you found this article a little helpful and we hope it will allow you to select a great used stair lift for your home. Alternatively, if you will only be using the stair lifts for a couple of month, I would highly recommend you to opt for stair lift rental since it is much more cost effective.
